| The Apple Barrel Orchards has been in existence since the mid 1960's.
Purchased in 1994 by Bernie and Roxanne Wager, it has moved from its original location on Wager Hill Rd. and is now located on the Wagers' family home farm on Sand Hill Rd. in Penn Yan, NY.This farm, now home to the Apple Barrel has been in the Wager family for three generations. In 1940, Bernie's grandfather and grandmother, Forest and Olive Wager raised cows and chickens, and grew apples, grapes, cherries, black raspberries and peaches on the land. In 1961, Bernie's parents, Charles and Barbara Wager, purchased the farm and continued to grow grapes, apples, cherries, black raspberries and peaches. Bernie and Roxanne took over the farm in 1991 with a focus on growing the best apples and grapes for fresh fruit, juice and wine markets. The Wagers' are striving to keep up with the ever changing trends of growing new varieties on smaller trees. When visiting the farm you will notice new orchards have been planted to replace the trees that have been around since the 1940's. |
